Blooming Marvellous

Wednesday, 21 September, 2011

The Conservative run borough has again been recognised for its horticultural high standards, claiming a gold award in the borough wide category at the London in Bloom awards on Friday evening and a Silver Guilt in the Britain in Bloom awards. This is the second year in a row the Council’s entries on behalf of local people have won gold awards.

In further results, York House Gardens in Twickenham won a silver gilt award and Twickenham town centre won a silver award. The Eel Pie pub in Church Street, Twickenham, came third in the Pub and Restaurant category.

Cllr Virginia Morris, Strategic Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning said: “I am delighted we have brought home these awards. They show exactly what can be achieved when the Council, local residents and businesses work together.

“The Council has worked particularly hard to make sure our parks, town centres and streets have been in first rate condition this year. The awards are recognition for that and the hard work, dedication and pride of everyone who has maintained gardens, hanging baskets, window boxes and frontages during the year. They are also a big ‘well done’ to all the local groups and schools which have worked hard to show real community spirit in their area.”
